Seasaw

The swoosh and sigh of the swell
And the surge of the foaming surf
The sea’s incessant roar
Raising and shedding shells
Slaps shining waves on the sand
And smooth stone scrapes on stone
As the rollers break and burst
On the shingly shore.

Out of the sea we rose
Strangers stranded on soil
Still the sounds of the ebb and flood
Speak stirringly to our souls
Soft rise and fall of its breath
Sing out the song of the sea
Or crashing and booming it boils
Spilling and spewing out death.
